“The Joke’s On We/Ennui” is a song in response to Ecclesiastes as a whole. It’s about becoming aware of what eastern philosophy calls “the cosmic giggle” and finding a positive way to navigate life’s peaks and valleys by embracing the trickster archetype. It features a West African polyrhythm against an Indonesian gamelan chord progression and is interrupted by a psychedelic, underwater adventure.
